Queen of Chess, the documentary film about Judit Polgár, had its world premiere on January 27 at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, where it was welcomed with a standing ovation.

Directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Rory Kennedy, the film traces Judit’s rise from a chess-obsessed child in Hungary to one of the most influential figures in the history of the game. Through intimate archival footage and personal reflections, Queen of Chess reflects on her early environment and family life, while charting the determination and resilience that enabled her to break through barriers in a traditionally male-dominated sport.

The documentary was met with strong acclaim at Sundance for its powerful storytelling and emotional depth. Following its festival debut, Queen of Chess is set for global release on Netflix on February 6, bringing Judit Polgár’s remarkable journey to audiences worldwide. Her legacy continues to inspire new generations to think boldly, challenge limits, and pursue excellence both on and off the board.
